A jumpstart for students into meaningful, high-wage, high-demand careers with college

credits which lead to credentials, certificates, or potentially an Associate’s Degree.

Requirements:

• 12th Grade

• Must have passed Algebra I

• Health Science Pathways students require a “C” in Algebra II

• Minimum 2.0 GPA

• Minimum 3.0 GPA for Health Science Pathways

• Application must be completed and then students will be chosen by a selection committee

Early College Curriculum

Central Virginia Application Requirements for CVCC/CVGS/STEM

• Students are required to have a 3.5 GPA or higher by the end of 9th grade in order to be eligible to apply by the middle of their 10th grade year.

• Must complete Advanced English 10, Alg II, Geometry or Trig and Chemistry or Physics by end of 10th grade year.

• Trigonometry is recommended to be completed by ACHS but not required by CVCC.

• Should have a clear idea of what they would like to major in at college.

• Be academically mature and self-motivated.

• Be able to clearly state why you want to attend CVCC and what you hope to achieve by completing the program.

• Students are encouraged to take the PSAT.

• Must apply to CVCC and take the Math and English (VPT) placement tests with Mrs. Wingfield. This will be scheduled by the Counseling Department.

There are no more than two attempts to pass the VPT.

Students must have a minimum 4.0 GPA at the time their application is due.

Must complete Advanced English 10, Alg II, Geometry or Trig and Chemistry or Physics by end of 10th grade year.

Have a strong passion for and high academic achievement in math and science, as is demonstrated in the student’s grades, SOL scores and PSAT scores.

Should be involved in special math/science projects, activities, and programs that are OUTSIDE OF SCHOOL. Governor’s School wants to see that you are going ABOVE and BEYOND what you’re exposed to here at school (students will be asked about this on their application and will be expected to go into detail).

Should achieve academic awards in math/science (also asked on application).

Have a clear reason for wanting to attend CVGS and be able to explain how attending

CVGS will assist him/her in his/her future career goals.

SOLs and PSAT scores are reviewed, be sure to take the PSAT test.

Must apply to CVCC and take the Math and English (VPT) placement tests with Mrs. Wingfield. This will be scheduled by the Counseling Department.
