Several students from the Appomattox FFA chapters competed in the FFA/4-H Crops Judging Contest at the State Fair of Virginia. During the contest, they were required to identify over 100 crop and weed plants and seeds. In addition, they were required to evaluate 7 different samples of crop seeds for quality. Each of the students performed well in the event.

The senior team of Niki Ballagh, Tim Henderson, Peyton Garrett, and Tyler Martin placed 1st and were named the champion team. Ballagh was the 3rd high individual. Martin placed 5th high individual. The senior team of Morgan Flamm, Braelyn Floyd, Savannah Jones, and Kyle Prince placed 8th in the senior division.

The team from Appomattox Middle FFA placed 8th in the junior division. Team members were Kat Broyhill, Rose Broyhill, and Colton Jones. Rose Broyhill was the 8th high individual in the junior division. Landon Dye, Eleanor McCann, Brooklyn McCormick, and Colin McDonough represented Appomattox 4-H in the junior division of the State Crops Judging contest. Dye placed 9th in the junior division. The 4-H team placed 7th overall.

All of the teams were coached by FFA advisor Ed McCann. The crops judging teams extend their appreciation to Promise Land Farm for sponsoring their team t-shirts.
