Brief Summary of November 9, 2023 Appomattox County School Board Meeting
The following information items were presented:
- Student and Staff Recognitions - The School Board recognized many student and staff achievements from AES, AMS, and ACHS.
- Public Comment Session on FY25 Budget - Three individuals addressed the Board concerning staffing for the band program.
- FY24 Budget Amendment - Dr. Jason Tibbs reviewed the amended FY24 budget which includes a salary increase of 2% for all staff to align with Chapter 1 of the 2023 Special Session 1. Employees can expect the payroll increase to begin in January. Salary scale adjustments will also be effective January 1, 2024.
- FY25 Budget Goals and Calendar – School Board Members discussed budget goals for FY25 and approved a FY25 budget calendar.
- CTE Additions – Dr. Cheryl Servis shared information on adding HVAC to the CTE curriculum and School Board Members approved the motion.
- American Education Week is November 13-17, 2023.
- Membership Report - The total funded Average Daily Membership for October 2023 was 2280. Budgeted ADM for FY23 was 2308.
- Public Requests to Comment on Non-Agenda Items – Two individuals addressed the School Board with regards to student attendance and student mental health.
