Summary of February 22, 2024
Appomattox County School Board Regular Monthly Business Meeting
The following information items were presented:
- The School Board recognized the division’s 2023-2024 Support Staff and Teachers of the Year.
- February is Virginia School Boards Appreciation Month. The Appomattox County School Board was recognized for doing an enormous job of governing our school division. We thank them for their service and dedication to public education.
- No speakers addressed the Board during the Public Hearing on the FY25 School Budget.
- Dr. Tibbs presented the 2024-2025 Superintendent’s Budget and provided key dates for the 2024 General Assembly. The presentation included a review of the following:
- Appomattox County Public Schools is hosting a job fair Saturday, February 24 from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. at the ACHS Cafeteria.
- Dr. Bowyer (AES) and Mr. Pettus (AMS) updated Board members on the ALL IN Program at their respective schools.
- Board Members will have tours of school facilities Thursday, March 28 at Appomattox Elementary School and Appomattox Middle School.
- The total funded Average Daily Membership for January 2024 was 2262. Total funded ADM for 2023-2024 was 2308.
- The School Board adopted the proclamation designating February 17-24, 2024 as National FFA Week.
- The revised 2024 School Board Meeting Calendar was approved.
- The School Board approved a new mileage reimbursement rate for 2024 - $0.67.
- The School Board will have a Joint Board Meeting with the Appomattox County Board of Supervisors Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at the Board of Supervisors Meeting Room located at the CVCC Satellite location.
- Appomattox County Public Schools is hosting the 2024 VSBA Southern Spring Networking Forum on Wednesday, March 13, 2024 at ACHS at 5:00 p.m.
- The 2024-2025 and 2025-2026 Instructional Calendars were approved.
