Summary of October 22, 2026
Appomattox County School Board Meeting
The following information items were presented:
I. The School Board recognized students and teams for their spring and summer achievements, including:
· GEAR UP Summer FOCUS Student Leadership Training Camp
· STEM Entrepreneurship Camp
· Boys Soccer Team – Dogwood District Champions and Region 2C Runner-Up
· Boys Outdoor Track – Dogwood District Champions and Region and State Participants
· Girls Outdoor Track – Dogwood District Champions and Region and State Participants
· Baseball Team – Dogwood District Champions
· Softball Team – Dogwood District Champions and Region 2C Champions
II. The School Board welcomed the School Board Student Liaisons, Mason Swanberg (12th grade) and Lucas Hunter (11th grade).
III. The Director of Operations and Human Resources provided updates on Business and Operations.
IV. The Superintendent provided updates on Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) projects, including discussion of Appomattox Middle School, and shared the 2026–2027 division committee assignments and fall class sizes.
V. The Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Career and Technical Education (CTE) presented the final Standards of Learning (SOL) accreditation report.
VI. The Board received information regarding the FY 2028 budget process timeline and preparation for the 2027 School Board meeting calendar.
VII. The School Board discussed and approved rescheduling its December meeting from Thursday, December 17, to Tuesday, December 15, 2026.
VIII. The following action items were approved:
· Resolution authorizing the School Board to reimburse itself for certain technology equipment purchases using technology grant proceeds
· First reading of revised policies
· Donation of surplus property
· Coram/NEC Municipal Agreement
· FFA Alumni road improvement request
· Requests for exemption from compulsory attendance laws for bona fide religious belief
The Board's next meeting will be a Regular Monthly Business Meeting and Public Comment Session on the FY 2028 School Budget on Thursday, November 12, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. in the School Administration Building. The next regular School Board meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, December 15, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. in the School Administration Building.
