The Appomattox Cross Country team raced twice this past week, tackling a crazy hilly course in Chatham on Thursday and pushing through hundreds of runners in Salem on Saturday.

Thursday September 4th the high school squad was led through a long 5K course by senior Clay Hamilton. Hamilton finished in 20:14 followed by sophomore Lucas Hunter in 20:16 and senior Christian Goodman in 20:55. Sophomore Elly Nash led the lady Raiders in 21:53. Junior David Owen was the fifth Raider across the line in 23:25 with sophomore Shylynne Randolph behind him finishing in 24:16. She was followed by freshman Sam Detwiler in 24:18. In his first race as a Varsity Raider, senior Trevon McCargo finished in 30:49 followed by Senior Bella Perry in 30:06 and freshman Olivia Tucker in 30:18.

The middle school squad was led on Thursday by 8th graders John Hampton and Will Owen who finished the co-ed 2 mile in 15:59 and 16:07 respectively. Sixth-grader Colin McDonough was the third Appomattox runner across the line in 16:39. Kady Nash was the first lady Raider across the line in 17:24, just ahead of Luke Dalton in 17:37 and Beckham Glover in 17:42. Lane Richardson ran 18 minutes flat. Miles Terry came in at 19:18 followed closely by Elizabeth Hunter in 19:46. Kinsley Warner came across the finish in 23:56 and Khloe Hodge in 24:25. On Saturday September 6th at the Knight's Crossing Invitational in Salem senior Clay Hamilton led the Raiders finishing the men’s 5K in 18:22. Hamilton finished 122nd out of 448 runners. Sophomore Lucas Hunter finished in 19:20 with Senior Christian Goodman right behind him in 19:26. Freshman Sam Detwiler ran a 22:10, junior David Owen ran 23:12 and senior Matthew Thomas ran 26:27. Sophomore Elly Nash led the Raiders at the Knight’s Crossing Invitational where the women's 5K featured 337 runners from across the state and North Carolina. Nash placed 56th in a time of 20:52 followed by Shylynn Randolph in 22:40. Freshmen ladies Raegen Wells ran a 25:40, Martha Robindolph 26:40 and Olivia Tucker 28:04. Senior Julie Goodman completed the race in 30:43. In their longest race to-date the middle schoolers were led by Kady Nash, who finished in 180th out of 394 runners, and Ryder Hamilton, who won 4th place out of 443 runners. In the girls 4K Nash ran 22:57 followed by Elizabeth Hunter in 23:21, Kinsley Warner in 23:56 and Khloe Hodge in 31:06. In the boys 4K Hamilton finished in 15:08. He was followed by 8th graders John Hampton in 20:04 and Will Owen in 20:29. Sixth grader Colin McDonough finished in 21:30 just ahead of Luke Dalton in 22:11 and Beckham Glover in 22:24. Lane Richardson ran a 23:49.
