The Raider boys and girls cross country teams for their awesome performances at Smith Mountain Lake Christian Academy. After more than 100 runners squeezed onto a narrow starting line the girls team ran away with second place and the boys team took third. Galileo won the girls meet with 43 points to Appomattox's 48 points. Galileo also won the boys race getting 27 points, followed by Chatham in second with 45 points and Appomattox in third with 79 points.

Sophomores Elly Nash and Lucas Hunter paced the teams with Nash taking first place in the girls race and Hunter taking fifth in the boys race. Nash ran a 20:18 5K while Hunter finished in 18:30, setting a new personal record.

Nash was followed by sophomore Shylynn Randolph in 5th (23:22), freshman Martha Robindolph in 13th (25:10), freshman Raegan Wells in 14th (25:23), senior Julie Goodman in 19th (26:40), freshman Olivia Tucker in 21st (26:58) and senior Bella Perry in 22nd (27:24).

Senior Christian Goodman was the second Raider to complete the boys race, taking 10th in 19:18. He was followed by senior Clay Hamilton in 11th (19:20), freshman Sam Detwiler in 30th (21:18), junior David Owen in 32nd (21:33), and senior Matthew Thomas in 57th (25:46).

Tucker set a new personal record in the girls 5K and Owen set a new personal record in the boys 5K. Wish them all luck this week as they prepare for the final Dogwood meet -- Danville this Thursday Oct. 16 -- before District Championships on Oct. 21!!
