Meet AES Counselor Kathryn Tweedy

About Mrs. Tweedy

Mrs. Tweedy graduated from Virginia Tech with a Bachelor of Science in Human Development then attended Lynchburg College and gained a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction. Mrs. Tweedy was a classroom teacher for nine years, but always had a heart for counseling so she attended the University of Lynchburg again to earn a Masters in Counseling. She is excited to work with the students at AES through classroom lessons, small groups, and individual counseling. Her goal is for students to become the best versions of themselves by helping them gain stronger social and emotional skills. When Mrs. Tweedy is not at school, she enjoys spending time with family, walking her dogs on her farm, and learning new skills like riding motorcycles.

What I do

Classroom Lessons - Classroom lessons are conducted monthly typically during one of your student’s resource times so that they do not lose instruction on academics. Each month the lessons cover a different topic following the Character Strong Curriculum such as respect, gratitude, empathy, etc.

Small Groups - Small groups are conducted weekly during lunches and cover topics such as: friendship skills, anxiety, navigating divorce, and so much more. If you are interested in learning more about upcoming small groups, please contact Mrs. Tweedy.

Individual Sessions - Individual meetings are done as needed. If your student would benefit from a regularly scheduled session, Mrs. Tweedy can help by making referrals to different services and identify the group that will best suit your student’s needs.

Career Exploration

Mrs. Tweedy also partners with the technology teacher to promote career exploration through a site called Virginia Wizard. Each grade level works through a series of lessons to help grow every student’s depth of knowledge about different career clusters. Students will also reflect on their strengths and values to see how they align with different career choices.
