FFA Forestry Judging will practice at ACHS on Monday and Thursday until 5:00. You must have returned your Land Lab Waiver for the year to participate. Please wear long pants, closed-toe shoes, and bring your note to ride the Activity Bus to ACHS. Horse Judging will not practice for the remainder of October. We will announce when practices resume. FFA Officers will meet tomorrow until 5:00 in the AMS Ag. Shop. Please let Mrs. Hodges know if you cannot attend.

The Appomattox Marching Raiders competed in the 50th annual Lynchburg Classic Competition for the first time in the 3A Division. We finished with second place in Music, Marching, General Effect, Color Guard, and second place overall in Class 3A.

This past weekend, Hurricane Helene damaged and changed the lives of many people. Starting this Monday AMS has decided to team up with Gleaning for the World to help gather items for people in need. The donation list will be on posters around the school with the list of items and more information. ALL ITEMS SHOULD BE TURNED IN BY FRIDAY OCTOBER, 11TH TO YOUR HOMEROOM TEACHER. The homeroom who donates the most from each grade level will be given a reward that will be determined at a later date.

The Appomattox Middle School annual fall Scholastic book fair will take place October 7 through October 11. Students will have the opportunity to shop during the school day and families can shop after school October 9 from 3 pm to 5 pm. Parents can set up an eWallett account for digital payments by visiting the website on the flyer. Thank you for supporting our school.

Our AMS Raider Girls Volleyball defeated the Spartans of Sandusky in two hard-fought sets (25-18, 25-22) last night! Way to go Lady Raiders!

Our AMS Raider Girls Volleyball team spiked the Knights of Buckingham last night, taking both games (25-10, 25-17)! Go Raiders!!

FFA NEWS: FFA Horse Judging will practice Tuesdays and Thursdays after school until 5:00 with Mrs. Moore at APS in Room D116. Bring a note to ride bus 28. FFA members should return their state fair permission slips to Mrs. Hodges by Friday. This includes the permission slip and the Virginia FFA Waiver. FFA Crops will practice Tuesday and Thursday at ACHS until 5:00. FFA Forestry Field Day will practice tomorrow at ACHS until 4:30. Be sure to let your ride know of the time change. FFA Livestock Skillathon will practice Thursday until 5:00 at ACHS.

AMS Parents and Guardians A number of students and parents have brought a concerning social media post to the attention of school and district administration. Thank you for your vigilance and attention to the safety of our school and community. The Appomattox County Sheriff’s office also received this information and has investigated the post. They have determined that this post is not related to any Appomattox County School or Appomattox Middle School in particular. As any extra measure of security, the Sheriff’s department has posted extra officers at AMS to be present and ensure the safety of our school. We thank you for partnering with us in keeping our students safe.

Due to construction at the Appomattox high school field, the middle school home football game scheduled for Monday September 9th has been changed to an away game. The game will be played at Dunbar middle school at 6pm.

Parents and guardians of the AMS cross country team members. AMS students will not be participating in the Meet this afternoon due to the extreme heat. Student will need to travel home by their normal transportation plan.

Parents and guardians, due to the extreme heat index for today, the AMS golf match against Halifax has been rescheduled for tomorrow at five and the AMS football scrimmage has been cancelled. Neither team will practice today August 28, 2024.
