The AMS National Junior Honor Society induction ceremony will occur Wednesday November 13, 2024 at the ACHS Auditorium. All visitors will be screened by metal detectors before entering. The ACPS clear bag policy applies to this event. To make this process as efficient as possible, only bring essential items to the event. Items like cell phones and car keys do not typically alert and are acceptable to bring to the event.

Appomattox Middle School used our new metal detectors during arrival for the first time today. The process worked well and will get smoother with practice. Please encourage your students to clean out binders and bookbags periodically. Starting Tuesday, November 12, visitors to the AMS main office will need to be screened upon entry. Please only bring essential items when visiting the school. Car keys , cell phones, and personal identification are not generally detected by the units on the school appropriate setting.

This Friday, AMS will begin using a new metal detection system during student arrivals.
ALL STUDENTS WILL BE REQUIRED TO ENTER BY PASSING THROUGH THE DETECTORS. This system will detect any object with significant metal in it, to include weapons and many vapes. We plan on introducing classes to this system next week so everyone can be prepared for how the system works. 3-ring binders will need to be removed from student bags and handed to a staff member before entry, but all other material (to include water bottles, lunch bags, etc.) will go through the detector with the student. If the system alerts, bags or items will be inspected before entry.
