Appomattox Middle School

AMS track will practice today at the normal time.

The Appomattox Middle School Track meet scheduled for today has been cancelled for today April 30.

Students are required to turn in a chrome book with a charger and the device in the case. If you do not return a charger you will be required to pay $30.

The last week of school we will be having a field day. In order for you to attend, you must have no bus or school referrals, no ISS, no OSS and have less than 4 absences from today to the last week of school. We are planning for lots of fun activities and competitions along with snow cones!

Students please be sure to turn in all lost and overdue Library items to Mrs. Beeler. You will be billed for all overdue, damaged, or lost items in May.

AMS Cheer tryouts will be held April 23-25 in the Gym from 3:45 - 5:30 p.m. All students trying out must have a completed physical.

Congratulations to our AMS homerun hero who not only recently "knocked it out of the park" on the softball field, but also on the Greater Richmond Convention Center stage this past weekend as a member of the 2024 All-Virginia ACDA Middle School Honor Choir. Karly Jenkins was selected by audition back in February to represent the Appomattox Middle School Chorus at this weekend's event. Students spent three days rehearsing with a guest director from Missouri, and presented their concert Saturday night to a packed house. The concert was so impressive that the choir received standing ovations throughout the concert program performance. Great job representing the AMS Raiders so proudly, Karly!

Attention, all Appomattox Middle School rising 7th grade parents, this message is to inform you that VA requires 7th grade students to have a TDap booster and a meningococcal vaccine prior to entering 7th grade. The HPV vaccine is recommended, however not required at this time. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to call Mrs. Newcomb (School Nurse) at 434-352-8257.

Tuesday March 26 is spring picture day for all individuals and sports. Each student received an individualized flyer last week with their personalized code already on it. This code can be used to order pictures once they are uploaded to the Lifetouch website. Spring sports pictures will be taken after school and coaches have sent flyers with the necessary code for picture ordering with their team members.

AMS Softball got the season started in true Raider fashion! The Lady Raiders took down Lynchburg City Schools, 18-3, in 5 innings. Way to go Raiders!

AMS Girls Softball will practice in the gym today until 5:00 pm. JV sports will go over to ACHS. All other AMS Sports are canceled today.

That’s why school breakfast is such a great option! In fact, students who participate in school breakfast tend to have better attendance rates and fewer behavioral problems. The School Breakfast Program provides 12 million nutritious breakfasts to hungry children across the country every day. These breakfasts tend to be more nutritious than the average breakfast a child gets from home or a convenient fast-food restaurant.

Congratulations to 8th grader, Karly Jenkins, who has been selected to the American Choral Directors Association's All-Virginia Honor Choir! Karly competed against 1,097 other auditionees submitted by 110 directors from across the state, and the judges said the "competition was FIERCE!" Karly claimed her selection as a Soprano 2 to the Mixed Honor Choir and will rehearse with other selectees from across the state for three days in April with the final concert performance at the Greater Richmond Convention Center on April 20th. This is the SECOND time Karly has achieved this awesome accomplishment in her Middle School Chorus career, and we are excited about the advanced opportunities that await her in High School Choir in the future. Way to go, Karly!

JV Softball tryouts are February 20-22nd. Middle School tryouts will be after try outs for JV are done. You must have a current VHSL physical on file or in the Coaches hand before you are allowed to try out. No exceptions.

Middle School Baseball tryouts will take place on Monday, February 19th and Tuesday, February 20th at the high school beginning at 3:30 pm. On Tuesday, the Activity Bus will make two runs to the high school to drop those trying out for baseball off. Since Monday is not a school day, any one who is not able to attend that day will be able to try out on Wednesday as well. Remember you MUST have a physical on file or in-hand in order to try out.

The American Civil War Museum is hosting a History Explorer Day that is free to Virginia students on Saturday, February 24th.
